SALTZMAN BLOCK

NEW BUILDING AT WAIPIATA TENDER ACCEPTED BY COMMITTEE The contract for the erection of the Samuel Saltonan administrative and treatment block at Waipiata Sanatorium has been let to Mr L. J. Breen, of Invercargill, whose tender was £.7800. Four tenders were received. At the last meeting of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee the secretary (Mr T. Pryde) mentioned that because Of the extra cost of this building provision would have to be made in next year's capital expenditure estimates for the balance above that provided for the work in the current year's estimates. In the new block, towards the cost of which Mr'Samuel Saltzman, of Dunedin. gave £3OOO, provision will be made for the future development of the sanatorium, and departments that are now scattered about the present buildings will be gathered together. The new block is to be a modern single-storey brick building, with concrete foundations and double brick walls, and it will be steam-heated The laboratory will be housed in the new block in which X-ray and other work will also be carried out.

The site chosen for the building is on high ground to the south of the dormitories. The work is expected to be completed in about seven months.
