OFFICIAL FORECAST CLOUDY TO OVERCAST The following is the official weather forecast: — A rather deep cyclone is centred today east of Norfolk Island, and appears to be moving south-eastwards, while an anti-cyclone of slight intensity covers the South Tasmania, and extends on to southern New Zealand. Indications are for:— Winds.—Easterly in the far north, otherwise outherly to south-easterly prevailing, mainly light to moderate at first, but freshening about and north of Cook Strait, and gales probable in northern districts. Seas. —New Zealand waters: Becoming rough to high north of East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising north of Farewell Spit andKaikoura. Eastern Tasman Sea: Southeasterly winds predominating, strong and of gale force at places in the northern portion, with rough seas; light to moderate in southern portion, with slight to loderate seas. Weather.—Mainly fair to fine* in western and southern districts of the South Island, elsewhere cloudy to overcast, with showers o 1 misty rain in mrny places, but some heavy rain developing in the northern half of the North Island, particularly in the far northern and north-eastern tortious. Overcast weather with scattered misty showers and light variable wind was experienced during the day. The maximum temperature was 74 degrees. The barometric pressure fell slightly, the 5 p.m. reading being 29.86 inches. WELLINGTON, Mar. 4. The weather was overcast to-day. Intermittent light rain showers fell in the morning, but conditions improved during the afternoon. CHRISTCHURCH, Mar. 4. A light south-west breeze brought a fine rain in the morning which later developed into one or two heavy showers. The weather was overcast and misty later. The maximum temperature was 56.8 degrees.
