ROSLYN BOWLERS

DOMINION PAIRS CHAMPIONS PRESENTATION OF DIPLOMAS A well-attended function was held in the Roslyn Bowling Club’s pavilion on Saturday night, when presentations were made to Messrs C. E. Tyrrell and R. B. Clarke, two members of the club and wjnners of the Pairs Championship at the Dominion tournament held in Dunedin in January. The large and representative gathering was presided over by Mr W. H. Thomson, president of the Roslyn Club. Replying to the toast of “ The New Zealand Council,” which was proposed by Mr W. D. Richards, Mr W. Connor, president of the council, said that the year had been*a happy one and he wished to take the opportunity of expressing his appreciation of the work done by the executive, especially in connection with the tournament. He mentioned that one rule the executive was introducing was that in future bowlers at all tournaments should wear white creams and club blazers and that the trousers should be long and clean. Shorts were not wanted on the bowling green. Mr Bews, who proposed the toast of “ The Dunedin Centre,” commented on the fine type of men who were representing the various clubs on the centre. In his reply Mr T. Smith, president of the centre, commented on the value of bowls, both physically and mentally, to all who took up the game. He also referred to the services being rendered by the Roslyn representatives and by the secretary of the Centre (Mr R. Hanning). The presentation of the diplomas and trophies to the guests of the evening was carried out by Mr Connor, who said he regarded the occasion as one of the proudest since he had been elected president of the Dominion Council. A diploma was also presented to Mr Thomson, who accepted it on behalf of the Roslyn Club. Suitable replies were made by the recipients. Messrs Tyrrell and Clarke Mr Mullinger, vice-president of the Roslyn Club, proposed the toast of " Sister Clubs.” which was responded to by Mr G. A. Nelson (Dunedin), as representative of the senior club of the centre. Mr Nelson stated that it must be very gratifying to the Roslyn Club to see that the other hill club, Kaikorai, had that day won the Saturday Shield competition. Mr W. T. Henaghan spoke on behalf of the Caledonian Club. Mr Boyd proposed the toast of “The Kaikorai Club,” the winner of the interclub championship, and this was responded to by Mr W. O.
