YOUNG PILOTS
RECRUITS FOR AIR FORCE REMARKABLE RESPONSE (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Feb. 36. (Received Feb. 27, at 6.30 p.m.) The remarkable response last tyear among young men eligible for service as pilots in the Royal Air Force to the announcement of an increased number of.vacancies to be filled as a result of the Government’s air defence expansion programme has been not only equalled but also beaten this year, when the nujmber of vacancies was again larger. The Air Ministry announces that although the number of pilots required by the Royal Air Force during the present year, which ends on March 31, reached a total of 1750, the whole of that number had been obtained by the end of January Out of the total approximately 1300 have been accepted from candidates from civil life, and the balance in accordance with the normal policy of re-selected volunteers from serving airmen in the Royal Air !Force. The total number of pilots who have been entered since the expansion began in 1935 now exceeds 4500.
