Friday, February 25 (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) I DRUNKENNESS Thomas Hector McLaughlan, a statutory first offender for drunkenness, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within three months.—Sergeant Lean said that the defendant was seldom n Dunedin and had kep* out of trouble for 12 months.—The sentence was conditional upon the payment of 2s 6d cab hire. A woman aged 64, a first offender admitted a charge of drunkenness.— Sergeant Lean said that her husband died 12 months ago and she appeared to grieve a great deal. She had been on a drinking bout in ,the la?t few days.—The magistrate saxd he would not enter a conviction. The Charge was adjourned for 12 months. CASTING OFFENSIVE MATTER
William Henry Grimsey was fined 20s and costs on a chargi of casting offensive matter. UNREGISTERED RIFLES
Robert Mclntyre was fined 5s and costs for being in possession of firearms without permits.—Two of the rifles belonged to him, it was said, but the third had been -the property of a man who was recently killed in Spain.—Sergeant Lean applied for an order impounding the rifl s, but the magistrate ordered that the two which belonged to Mclntyre should be returned and that the third should be retained by the police. For using a building as a bakehouse without permission. Stanley Mulqueen was fined 5s and costs. TRAFFIC OFFENCES
Basil Maurice MacPherson, who appeared Voluntarily, was fined 10s and costs for driving a motor car without a licence. For driving a motor car without due care and attention. Fred Arnott was fined 20s and costs.
For failing to keep to the left of the centre line, Clement Wynn Humnhreys was fined 40s and costs. John Moore was convicted and Differed to nay costs for nassing a vehicle on an intersection. He had been attending the driving school and the magistrate said that the report was satisfactory.
Cyril Leonard Arthur Palmer was fined 10s and costs for parking his ''ar so that it obstructed traffic.
On a charge of dangerous driving, Herbert Barclav Ewing was fined 30? and costs.
Michael Costello was fined 3s and costs for drivings motor car without a warrant of fitness. On a similar charge. William Douglas Allan was fined 5s and costs, and for exceeding the speed limit of 30 miles an hour he was fined £3 and Harold Muir pleaded not guilty to a charge of negligent driving—After hearing evidence the magistrate entered a conviction and adjourned the question of penalty to April 8. If the damage caused by Muir’s negligence were made good by that time, there would be no penalty, he said: otherwise. the penalty would be heavy.
