RUTHERFORD BIOGRAPHY
PART-AUTHOR OF MEMOIR (From Our Own Correspondent* (By Air Mail) LONDON, Jan. 26. A forthcoming publication which will be eagerly awaited in New Zealand is a biography of Lord Rutherford by Mr Ivor Evans, entitled “ Man of Power: The Life Story of Lord Rutherford.” It will be published by Stanley Paul, and is designed to reveal Lord Rutherford as a man as well as a scientist. Lord Rutherford was himself part-author of a memoir of Sir Grafton Elliot Smith, the anthropologist, who was born in New South Wales a fortnight before Lord Rutherford’s birth, and died on New Year’s Day, 1937. Sir Grafton Elliot Smith had already begun his autobiography, but was unable to complete the task, so the few fragments which he left are being preserved as the basis of a memoir which is being completed by a group of friends and edited by Mr Warren
R. Dawson. It will be polished in the spring by Jonathan Cape under the title “Sir Grafton Elliot Smith: A Biographical Record by His Colleagues.” The contributors include eminent workers in diverse fields, in which Sir Grafton distinguished himself.
