DUNEDIN REGATTA

POSTPONED TO FEBRUARY 19 DECISION OF COMMITTEE The Dunedin Regatta Club’s annual regatta, which was to have been held on January 22, will not take place until February 19. This decision was made by the club’s committee at a special meeting last night. The president (Mr S. G. Styche) occupied the chair. DATE OF REGATTA According to notice of motion, Mr Styche moved that the decision of the last committee meeting, that the regatta be held on January 22, should be rescinded, and that the regatta be held at a later date. Mr Styche said that he had discussed the matter with members of local clubs and had learned that they considered January 22 too soon after the holidays for the regatta. While the Regatta Club should not be dictated to by Clubs, it depended on their support for a successful fixture. He pointed out that Southland was unable to send an eightoar crew for the Edmond Shield race at the regatta. The Southland Association had incurred an expenditure of £IOO in travelling last season, and it did not wish to ask its supporters for further assistance this year. Moreover, it wished to conserve its funds for purchasing another eight-oar boat. Mr Styche also said that there would be some difficulty in getting the programmes printed in time for a regatta on January 22. He moved that the regatta be held on February 19. Mr F. Brough said that by holding the regatta on February 19 it was possible that entries would be forthcoming from Southland. The chairman’s motion was carried without discussion. OFFICIALS APPOINTED The following officials were appointed:—Starter, Mr T. O’Shea; umpire, Mr W. B. Robinson; judges —Messrs T. F. Mackie, W. L. Hooper, G. Hogan, P. J. Priest and A. Watson; starter’s steward, Mr T. Wheelwright; announcer, Mr W. D. Young; shore stewards—Messrs H. E. Lyon and F. Brough (Otago), with stewards elected by other clubs. GENERAL It was decided that entries should close on February 9. It was agreed that the arranging of wharf collections should be left in the hands of a Ladies’ Committee, with Mr F. Brough as convener.
