NORTH OTAGO

ACTIVITIES OF THE DISTRICT

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT)

BOWLING INTER-CENTRE FIXTURES , A very fine gesture has been made by the South Canterbury Bowling Centre in the playing of inter-centre mutches against Canterbury and North Otago. South Canterbury has a fixture on January 29 against Canterbury, and •with the idea of making a day of it, offered to select a second team to play North Otago for the Murray Bowl at Timaru on the same day, instead of on February 5, the date originally set down for this match. The North Otago Centre has agreed to this proposal, with the result thar, the South Canter-bury-Canterbury and South Canter-bury-North Otago matches will be played this year at Timaru on January 29. After the match the Canterbury and North Otago bowlers will be the guests of the South Canterbury Centre at dinner, which will offer the visitors to Timaru on that day an excellent opportunity of renewing old friendships and making new ones. The Mills Shield matches set down for January 29 have been put back a week to February 3. MAJESTIC THEATRE -' Seventh Heaven.” the Twentieth Century-Fox production of Austin Strong’s immortal love story, will be shown to-night at the Majestic Theatre, with Simone Simon and James Stewart in the starring roles. Adapted from the stage play, produced and directed by John Golden, “ Seventh Heaven ’’ re-creates for the screen audiences that star-crossed pair of Montmartre, Diane and Chico, two lovers who lift your heart to the stars. As a little street waif, Diane, Simone Simon surpasses all hopes expressed for this sensational French screen find, touching the deepest places of your heart and emerging gloriously as the screen’s newest and greatest star. Opposite her is James Stewart —tall, laughing, grey-eyed—as Chico of the valiant spirit and the shy, yearning love. “ Fury Over Spain ” will also be screened. This is a raw screen record of what is going on in Spain at the present time. For the change to-mor-row, showing at matinee and at night, Deanna Durbin will make her second appearance to Oamaru audiences —this time in “ 100 Men and a Girl.” GENERAL NEWS A huge cabbage of the Enfield Market variety is to be seen in Mr W.
