Marking 11 years’ service at Tuma ; Station, Waikouaiti. a farewell evening was recently tendered to Mr William G. Lawless by Mr A. W. Douglass and 40 employees of the properties. Eulogistic references were made by several speakers to the high regard in which Mr Lawless was held by all who were associated with him. and, on behalf of those present, Mr Lawless was presented by Mr J. O. Douglass with a Westminster chiming clock. Our London correspondent, writing on December 2. says that Mr L. B Dawson, of Dunedin, has returned to London after spending two years in South America on business. He expects to be in London for 12 months Mr D. J. Calder, of Dunedin, has left London to visit his daughter in Calcutta (says our London correspondent, writing on December 2). He recently spent some weeks in Scotland and was fortunate in getting some good curling. While in London he had a fortnight’s sight-seeing with Mr W. R. Brugh (formerly of Dunedin). Mr A. K. Anderson, principal of Scots College (Sydney) and formerly principal of St. Andrew’s College (Christchurch), arrived at Wellington by the Awatea yesterday morning. He will spend a month in Christchurch and Dunedin. Mr Anderson is accompanied by his wife and daughter. Mr N. R. Driver, chief clerk at the Invercargill branch of the New Zealand Insurance Company. Ltd., who has been appointed chief clerk at the Dunedin branch, was presented with an inscribed barometer by the Invercargill staff on Friday. The presentation was made by Mr M. O’Dowda. who congratulated Mr Driver on his promotion and wished him success in his new position.
