TAXI-DRIVERS FINED CATERED FOR TOURISTS (Per United Press Association* AUCKLAND, Dec. 17. Giving judgment in a case in which the Transnort Department prosecuted 18 taxi-drivers for conducting unlicensed transnort services from Auckland to Rotorua in respect to tourists off the shin Strathmore in November, Mr C R. Orr-Walker, S.M., fined 17 of the defendants £5 and costs each. , Anthony Ralnh de Balfour, manager of the International Tourist Bureau, of which nine of the taxidrivers were stated to be shareholders was fined £lO and costs on one of ’several charges of counselling and procuring a breach of the transport regulations. The magistrate said that the defendants had been warned by a similar prosecution a year ago, and he had to impose a penalty which he considered would deter them from repeating a breach of the law.
