DUNEDIN HOSPITAL MISS J. TOMLINSON APPOINTED RETIREMENT OF MISS TENNENT Miss Jessie A. Tomlinson, of the Wellington Hospital, was last night appointed by the Otago Hospital Board to the position Ox matron of the Dunedin Hospital, in succession to Miss E. P. Tennent, who has reached the retiring age. The chairman of the Board (Mr J. W. Dove) said that opportunity would be provided later for members to express their appreciation of the services of Miss Tennent. Miss Tomlinson will take up her duties in Dunedin on April 1. Miss Tomlinson Miss Tomlinson, who has a postgraduate diploma in hospital administration, has had a good deal of experience abroad as well as in New Zealand. She received her original training with the Grey River Hospital Board, which she joined in 1919. She secured her midwifery training in 1925 in the service of the Wairau Hospital Board. Three-years in the _ervice of the Ashburton Hospital Board followed, and in 1929 Miss Tomlinson took a post-graduate course at Wellington. Between 1929 and 1932 she was tutor sister in the service of the Masterton Hospital Board, and since 1932 she has been tutor sister in the Wellington Hospital, with administrative duties. Miss Tomlinson has studied training school administration and the teaching of nursing at the College of Nursing, London, and has paid many observation visits to hospitals and health centres in England, Scotland, Scandinavia, and Belgium. Miss E. P. Tennent Miss Edith Penelope Tennent has been matron of the Dunedin Hospital for the past 12 years, and for a period of eight years has represented the New Zealand Registered Nurses' Association on the Nurses and Midwives' Registration Board, which controls the training and examination of nurses throughout the Dominion. She is a member of the Dominion Executive of the Registered Nurses' Association and of the council of the Otago branch of that body. She has also served for some years on the committee of the Patients and Prisoners' Aid Society. Miss Tennent received her training as a nurse at the Wellington Hospital, where she was sub-matron when she was appointed to her present position in the Dunedin Hospital in 1925. In May last Miss Tennent had conferred upon her by his Majesty the King in honour of M.B.E.
