THE HEALTH CAMPS
TO THE EDITOR Sir,—When I gave my contribution to the Children’s Health Camp Fund I was under the impression that the camps were for the children who were not too robust or strong and whose parents were not in a position to send their children away for a holiday. I have been informed that one boy and one girl have been picked to go into camp from one of the Upper Clutha schools. These two children are the healthiest and biggest children in the school, and their parents are in a position to send them for a holiday. Is it favouritism or what is it? One child is the only one going to the school, and other parents have five, four, three, and two children going to the same school, some of whom have never been away from home or have even seen a train, and their parents are not in a position to send their children away for a holiday. As rest in the camps would help very much to build up some of the children whose parents cannot afford to send them away from home, these children are of a class for which I understood the health camps are provided—not for big, healthy children. Hoping that inquiries will be made when the children are selected to go into camp so that the delicate children, whose parents cannot afford to send them away for a holiday, will receive first preference.—l am, etc,. Parent.
