THE POSITION IN BRITAIN VERY CONSIDERABLE ADVANCE LONDON, Nov. 30 (Received Nov. 30, at 10 p.m.) Lord Home, speaking at Edinburgh on the industrial outlook said the result of the recent wage increase naturally meant increased spending power Sales in retail shops reached a record, and the great stable industries were expen encing a very considerable advance About 50 new factories had been established in Scotland in the past two or three years. The programme of rearmament had had a considerable effect, but it had not yet got into its stride. Industry had benefited more from the bettering tendencies in the world during the past two years than from the programme of rearmament Referring to the policy of postponing expenditure when possible for a period when industry was less active generally, hcsaid the Great Western Railway Company, of which he was chairman, adopted this course in regard to the expenditure of £1,000.000. He saw no reason to believe that the peak in industry in Scotland had been reached
