ATHLETIC MEETING

TO-DAY’S CHAMPIONSHIPS This afternoon at the Caledonian Ground the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association will stage the first Otago women’s and Junior athletic championship meeting in conjunction with local Empire Games trials. An excellent programme of events has been drawn up, and it is hoped that good public support will be accorded the fixture. The competitors in the women’s events will include Miss Doris Strachan. of South Canterbury, who holds the New Zealand ladies’ long Jumn record, and Miss Betty Forbes, the New Zealand ladies’ high Jump record-holder. About 20 girls from the Dunedin Ladies’ Athletic Club will be competing, and the women’s relay has drawn 10 teams. A spectacular event will be the 90 Yards Hurdles. Exciting racing is anticinated in the_ Junior events, especially in the sprints, in which much interest attaches to the meeting of C. McGregor and A. R. Duff, who has displayed brilliant form of late. D.
