LIFE PATTERNED ON A FILM
I am patterning my life after Nora (states Myrna Loy in an exchange*. That may sound odd. but it is true; nevertheless Nora, to me, is the ideal wife, and if more women would follow her example nine marriages out of ten would be happy ones. Remember in “The Thin Man” how she never nagged, never scolded, was always a good sport, a witty companion and a perfectly good friend? Well, she hasn’t changed a bit in “After the Thin Man,” and 1 am so happy that I am having the chance to know her and to study her tactics more thoroughly. The secret of Nora’s success as a wife may be summed up in one phrase, “ a sense of humour.” The woman who has not this quality naturally should cultivate it. Watch the way Nora works in "After the Thin Man.” and you will find yourself in possession of some rare philosophies to trv out in your own life. It is really odd how playing this role opposite William Powell has affected public consciousness. Ever since the first “ The Thin Man ” people have associated us as man and wife A surprising number of fan letters on this picture reached the studio addressed to Mr and Mrs William Powell, and the clerk at the hotel in San Francisco where we went on location for “After the Thin Man could not believe that we were just actors playing in a new motion Picture. , T . But be that as it may. Nora, to me at least, is a real person, the goal for every wife to aim at. Achieving her good sportsmanship, her breezy nonchalance and her loyalty is the best happy marriage insurance 1 can think of.
