“LEARN TO SWIM” WEEK
OFFICIAL OPENING The importance of haying new swimming baths for Dunedin was stressed by the Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox) at the Municipal Baths last night on the occasion of the official opening of “ Learn to Swim ” Week. The present baths, the Mayor stated, were out of date, and the Government had promised to arrange for the erection of new premises, which, it was hoped, would be ready for use this time next year. The City Council had shown its appreciation of the Swimming Centre’s effort In regard to “ Learn to Swim ” Week, Mr Cox said, and had granted all learners free admission to the baths throughout the ensuing week It was gratifying to see that there were 60 instructors from local clubs, who were giving every assistance to make' the week a successful one, and the baths staff was to be congratulated on its spirit of enthusiasm. “Learn to Swim” Week Is part of a national campaign arranged by the National Committee of Swimming and Life Saving, the Otago Centre being the first centre In New Zealand to institute this fixture. During the week there will be early morning sessions each day, lunch-hour sessions from 12 to 1.30, women’s classes from 1.30 to 3, after-work sessions from 4.30 to 6, and the main sessions from 7 to 8.30 each night.
