MUNICIPAL CONTESTS LABOUR CANDIDATES DEFEATED NEW YORK, Nov. 3. Other important municipal elections were at Detroit, Akron, and Canton, where Labour-supported candidates were defeated. The Committee of Industrial Organisation backed Mr Patrick O'Brien in Detroit, who urged Labour "to seize the reins of Government.' Richard Reading (Democrat) was elected. All C. 1.0. candidates ,for the City Council were defeated.

T! d American Federation of Labour and the C. 1.0. combined to bark Labour candidates in Ohio cities, but Republicans were elected.
