PROPOSALS APPROVED
.<» COUNCIL OF PHYSICAL WELFARE CONSIDERED BY SPORTS COMMITTEE (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 4. The following statement has been issued by Mr H. McCormick (chah--man) and Mr H. Amos (secretary) of the Combined Sports Committee:— "The committee of the combined sports bodies appointed to co-operate with the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. E. Parry) in the legislation recently introduced reports as follows: "1. The committee met Mr Parry and the Under-secretary for Internal Affairs CMr J. W. Heenan) and, after going through the Bill clause by clause, came to a unanimous agreement. "2. The committee approves of the Bill and recommends its support by all national organisations. "3. The committee considers the adopted name, ' Council of Physical Welfare and Recreation.' is preferable to the original title of ' Council of Sport,' since it removed all ambiguities and misunderstandings and clearly indicates its main purpose, viz., the promotion of the physical health and well-being of the community. "4. The committee is satisfied that there is no suggestion of compulsion as to which sports individuals may take up, and that there will be no interference whatever with regard to the administration of our national sports. "5. The committee believes that the main purpose is identical with the ideas promulgated by the recent English legislation, so that all individuals and sports organisations can safely give the Bill full supnort and co-operate whole-heartedly with the authorities in carrying out the proposals."
