Golf During the week-end the local golf club visited Middlemarch to play the return match for the McKillop Cup. Playing conditions were very difficult, with a strong north-west wind. Considering the new course has only been opened this year, the greens were in good order. The match resulted in a win for Middlemarch by nine games to two and Middlemarch thus retains the McKillop Cup for the year. The results are as follows (Middlemarch names first): —McGregor beat Long; J. Matheson lost to McLachlan; Pacey lost to Beattie; Gillespie beat Fraser; Mitchell beat McLean: Park beat Wilson; Burns beat McKillop; Mrs Gunion beat Mrs Macdonald; Mrs Pacey beat Mrs Gilchrist; Miss W. Elliott beat Mrs Weir; Miss G. Elliott beat Miss Grant. L<!hvn Tennis On Saturday the Ranfurly Lawn Tennis Club held a tournament amongst Us own players. In spite of a strong wind, which made playing difficult, some good games were witnessed. Mrs D. Lonie and Mr J. I. Fraser were the winners of the tournament, defeating Miss Hughes and Mr J. Redding in the final. Interclub matches will be commenced on Saturday, when Kokonga will play the Ranfurly A team at Ranfurly, and the Ranfurly B team will travel to Patearoa. Cricket Weather conditions were fine, but a high north-west wind made playing conditions difficult for a continuation of matches in the Maniototo Cricket Sub-association's competition on Saturday. The highest score, and, incidentally, the .first century in association matches, was made by L. Smith, of Naseby, who made 129 against Becks. The results are as follows: — Patearoa A, 163, secured a comfortable win over Oturehua, 63. Batting for Patearoa A, John Blakely (70 retired), V. Herlihy (17), B. Greer (16), F. Greer (15), and Binnie (14 retired) were the principal scorers, while the bowling honours went to J. Blakely (fivefor3o), J. Beattie (two for none), and McAtamney (two for 13). For Oturehua, W. Becker (26) and Olsen (13) were the principal scorers. W. Becker (three for 54) and Russell (three for 62) secured the best averages in bowling. Patearoa B (126 for nine wickets) narrowly escaped defeat and possession of the Greer Cup when, on the call of time, they were able to draw with Ranfurly, who scored 156. For Ranfurly, Bleach (36), Inder (34), Lynch (30). Mulholland (19), and Hanrahan (14) were the principal scorers, while the bowling honours were shared by Mulholland (four for 36) and Lynch (three for 29). For Patearoa B, H. Pearce (40 not out), W. Thurlow (24), and H. Blakely (15) batted solidly, and the wickets were shared by McSkimming (seven for 49) and R. C'arr (two for 29). Waipiata (90), playing at Cambrians, secured a win by 54 runs, Cambrians making 36. For Waipiata, Pollock (24), Hally (13), Jones (18) Mathias (11 not out), and Murray (10) were the principal scorers, while excellent averages were secured by Pollock (four for nine), Mathias (two for 5), Kearney (two for 7), and Gibson (one for 6). The most successful bowlers for Cambrians wj?re King (four for 15), Jones, jun. (three for 30), and Dove (two for 22). Naseby (260 for five wickets declared) compiled the biggest score of the day, defeating Becks, who replied with 126. L. Smith (129 retired), J. Marslin (65 retired), K. Marslin (17 not out), and Stephens (30 not out) batted well for Naseby, while the bowling was shared by K. Marslin (four for 6), W. Jopson (three for 37), and L. Smith (two for 19). For Becks the principal scorers were J. Mee (40), W. Leask (24), A. McDonald (19), arid T. Williamson (15). Wickets were secured by W. Kane (one for 50) and J. Mee (one for 70). Miniature Rifle Club The Ranfurly Miniature Rifle Club wound up its season with a social last Friday night, when opportunity was taken to present the trophies won during the season, and also the trophies won by the various clubs in the Central Otago Sub-association's competitions. The presentations were made by Messrs J. E. Kearney and R. G. Spence. Maniototo Hospital Board The monthly meeting of the Maniototo Hospital Board was held in Ranfurly on Monday and was attended by Messrs H. W. Davis (chairman), T. A. Lowis, B. A. Todd, R. Scott, T. Dowling, N. Nicolson, E. Morgan and P. Aitken, and by Dr Eudey, medical superintendent. Letters were received from the Otago Hospital Board and South Canterbury Hospital Board relating to the admission of patients from the Maniototo district. The Department of Health wrote advising that expenditure on radio sets for the benefit of members of the resident staff as well as for patients had recently been discussed with the Controller of Broadcasting and the Audi-tor-general, who had decided that expenditure of this nature would be regarded as authorised expenditure. The doctor reported that there were five malts and seven females in the hospital at the date of the last return, and seven and 10 respectively had since been admitted, making 29 all told. Eight males and 11 females were discharged during the month, while one male patient had died, leaving nine under treatment. Two babies were bom in the hospital during the month. Dr Eudey informed the board that he had received the offer from a person in this district, who wished to remain anonymous, of a donation of a refrigerator to the hospital. The board resolved that the secretary express through the medical superintendent the sincere thanks and appreciation of the action of the person who was making the donation.
