PLUNKET SOCIETY

THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OPENED BY LADY GALWAY iPer United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 4. The Plunket Society Conference was opened by Lady Galway this morning, Mrs James Begg (Dominion president) introducing her Excellency. Lady Galway spoke of the wonderful work accomplished by the society for motherhood and the nation, and the debt of the whole English-speaking race to Sir Truby King. She stressed the value of the conferences, as every movement had to be kept up to date. The conference expressed its sense of obligation to Sir Truby King, and regret at his inability to attend. Lady Galway presented Mrs Joseph McGeorge. ex-Dominion president, with a handsome illustrated history of the society's work as a tribute to her long and valuable services, and several speakers spoke highly of Mrs McGeorge's association with the movement.

The president, in her address of welcome to the delegates, referred to the many losses suffered by the society during the year, and mentioned particularly the death of Mrs W. B. Benley, Lady Lockhart, Lady Luke. Miss Pattrick, and Mrs A. F. Wright. The conference placed on record appreciation of the work of Lady Sidey, who recently relinquished the position of acting Dominion president.
