Advice has been received of the death of Mr Philip Lewis, a man who was known through Australia and New Zealand as "the wandering Jew." Mr Lewis was a preacher who, during his 280.000 miles of wandering, is said to have worn out 100 pairs of boots and nine Bibles which he had read through many times and from which he preached wherever he went. He passed through New Zealand last year, taking part in several missions in Christchurch.
