Mr G. E. Wright left yesterday morning on a business trip to Australia. Mr W. E. Reynolds left for Wellington by the mid-day express yesterday. Dr M. H. Watt, Director-general of Health, was a passenger from Invercargill by the through express yesterday on his return to Wellington. A Press Association cable message from Vancouver states that Mr Stanley McGregor Reid was a guest of the newly-formed Australian and New Zealand Association, which has 100 members. Messrs W. Begg (chairman of the Harbour Board), J. B. Waters, J. Renton (secretary) and J. McG. Wilkie (engineer) left by the mid-day express yesterday for Wellington, where they will be engaged on Harbour Board business. Mr L. G. Taylor-Cannon, who is studying for a degree at Victoria University College, and who for the past nine months has been a member of the staff of the Public Works Department head office, has been granted a cadetship under Wing-Commander A. E. Gibson, A.M.1.A.E.. chief aerodromes engineer, Wellington. Sincere regret at the death of Mr W. S. Wharton, secretary of the North Canterbury Hospital Board, was expressed by Mr J. W. Dove at a meeting of the Otago Board last night, a resolution of sympathy with the relatives being carried. The Union Airways liner Karoro left the Taieri airport at 8.15 yesterday morning for Christchurch, Blenheim, and Palmerston North with Mr J. W. Hannan for Christchurch, Mr G. Campbell for Blenheim, and Mr K. Falconer for Wellington. The Kotuku arrived from the north at 1 p.m. with Mr R. H.Stevenson from Wellington and Mr Max Manning and Miss A. Williams from Christchurch. A Press Association message from Wellington advises that the board of directors of the Y.M.C.A. has appointed Mr Victor C. Jones, of Perth, Western Australia, and lately of Honolulu, general secretary in succession to Mr Greenberg. Mr and Mrs Jones will arrive in New Zealand in December. Two members of the local branch of the Post and Telegraph DepartmentMr A. Hope, superintendent of the Telegraph Office, and Mr G. A. Maskew, supervisor of the postal branch —will retire to-morrow after having completed 40 years' service with the department. Mr Hope spent most of his time with the denartment in the North Island, and the last 12 years of his service have been completed in Dunedin. Mr Maskew, who has been in Dunedin for nine years, was previously mainly connected with the Wellington office. i A Press Association message from Wellington states that the appointment of Mr L. G. Tuck to be assistant commissioner of stamp duties was announced in a Gazette issued last night. Mr Tuck has also been appointed assistant registrar of companies, registrar of building societies, registrar of industrial and provident societies, and assistant registrar of incorporated societies at Wellington from November 1.
