ATTACK ON JEWISH CONVOY LORRY DRIVER SHOT DEAD SCHOOL CHILDREN FIRED ON (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) JERUSALEM, Oct. 26. (Received Oct. 27, at 5.5 p.m.) A Jewish lorry driver was shot dead and an escorting Arab constable seriously wounded when a convoy of the Palestine Potash Company, travelling to Jerusalem from the Dead Sea, was ambushed near the Inn of the Good Samaritan, halfway from Jericho. The firing continued even after the arrival of police and members of the Air Force.
Two Jewish constables on duty in the Jewish quarter of Jerusalem were fired on from an overlooking roof. One was wounded. A bomb exploded near a synagogue in the old city. One Jewish constable was wounded. After an exhaustive search, Hamdi Effendi Husseini, a member of the Grand Mufti's family, has been arrested. He was formerly head of the Anti-imperialistic League. Shots from a passing car occupied by Arabs wounded one of a number of children who were leaving a high school.
