OFFICIAL FORECAST AN IMPROVEMENT IMMINENT The following is the official weather forecast:^— . . The last of the present series of depressions is moving eastwards off the Dominion, and an anti-cyclone is approaching across the Tasman Sea. Indications are for:— Winds.—Southerly to south-easterly, strong at times about Cook Strait and on the east coast, but gradually decreasing, and otherwise light to moderate in force. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rather rough to rough, but later decreasing south of East Cape and in the Cook Strait area, rather rough but decreasing north of Cape Egmont, and elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to fresh, but decreasing south-easterly or southerly winds, with, a considerable southerly swell, but otherwise moderate seas. Weather.—-Fine in western districts and in the interior of the South Island; elsewhere changeable, with passing s,howers in many places, especially in eastern districts between Cook Strait and East , Cape. A gradual improvement is, , however, probable; temperatures cold, especially in the South Island. WEATHER IN DUNEDIN The weather yesterday was changeable, with intervals, of sunshine and passing clouds.- There was a heavy hail shower during the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 54 degrees. The barometer.rose during the afternoon, and late«last night it was steady at 30.20 inches. . Dull and cloudy weather, with occasional showers, was experienced until the late afternoon, when the conditions cleared. The wind was fresh from the south-south-west, and the maximum temperature was 66 degrees. The barometer was steady, the reading at 5 p.m. being 30.00 inches. WELLINGTON, Oct. 27. The weather to-day was cold .and overcast, with a fresh southerly wind. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 27. The weather was overcast early today, and there were several showers. Later the sky cleared and the afternoon was fine and sunny.
