TAIERI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING Mr John Murray (president) presided at the monthly meeting of the Taieri Agricultural Society. There was a large attendance of members. Before proceeding with the ordinary business, the chairman referred to the death of Mrs I. M'Hattie. The deceased had been an enthusiastic supporter of the society and a constant exhibitor, especially in the Friesian cattle classes. —A motion of sympathy with the relatives was passed. The secretary of the Southland and Otago Herd-testing Association notified discontinuance of the donation of one guinea and a-half to shows on account of the poor support given for the classes interested. —Noted. The secretary reported that donations had been received from the following:—New Zealand Warehousemen's Association, Messrs Reddell's, Ltd., New Zealand Refrigerating Company, Ltd., New Snowdrift Lime Company, Ltd., Messrs Alex Thompson and Son, Ltd., Messrs M'Leod Bros., Ltd., the D.1.C., Messrs P. Hayman and Co., the

Evening Star Company, the Mosgiel Woollen Factory Company, Ltd., the Dunedin Stock Agents and Woolbrokers' Association, Messrs G. and T Young, Messrs Matheson and Roberts, Fertilisers, Ltd. (South Island), Otago Daily Times Company, Ltd., the Taieri and Peninsula Company, and Messrs Hallenstein's. The tender of the Mosgiel Municipal Band for music for Show Day was accepted, and that of Messrs A. F. Cheyne and Co. for champion ribbons. The appointment of gatemen was left in the hands of Mr A. Walker, and the Social Committee was asked to make arrangements for the show dance on show night.

Messrs W. J. Reid and J. A. Miller were appointed to make arrangements for the judging competition for young farmers at the show. An account for £1 6s lid was passed for payment. It was decided that the trophy value £5 5s given by the Clydesdale Horse Society for the best colonial bred mare, four years and over (bred by exhibitor) be cancelled, and that a special class for females, any age, colonial bred, be made, and the trophy be awarded to the best female in the class. Mr J. J. Moore, Tapanui, forwarded a complaint about the appointment of certain judges.—After a discussion the secretary was requested to reply and place the necessary facts before the writer.

It was decided to have a loading bank erected on the show ground for the loading and unloading of stock exhibits.
