CHRISTIAN ATTITUDE TO WAR
In his paper on " Christianity and the New Morality," read before the Modern Churchmen's Conference jat Oxford, Mr St. John Ervine, trje dramatist, said he wished to consider the question in its connection with the whole social system. On the question of war, he hoped that he would not be charged with a desire to keep men at war if he said that he could not agree with those wljo said it was a Christian's duty to refuse to fight in any circumstances whatsoever. Our Lord frequently used violence in speech and behaviour. Nor did He stop to consider the devils whom He drove out of the possessed. To let evil obtain victories without opposition was surely to commit evil by assisting it.
