WOMEN'S DIVISION N.Z. FARMERS' UNION

Reports of meetings of branches arc requested, but they should be furnished promptly, for the publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be promised. An enjoyable dance was held in the Lauder Hall when the Lauder branch of the W.D.F.U. celebrated its fifth birthday. Greetings were received from the Omakau, Cambrian, Poolburn, and Clyde branches, and also from the Farmers' Union and the Young Farmers' Club. After welcoming the guests, Mrs Hamilton asked Mrs Charles (Omakau branch) to cut the birthday cake, which had been made and decorated by Miss W. Kane. Prizes for the novelty dances were presented to Mr and Mrs S. Leask (statue dance) and Miss W. Porter and Mr I. Crosbie (Monte Carlo waltz) # * * On October 19 the Cambrian-St. Batbans branch met to welcome the provincial president, Mrs Elliott, and Mrs Horn. After the local president (Mrs Harley) had welcomed her, Mrs Elliott gave an interesting account

of the conference in Wellington. Mrs Elliott then introduced Mrs Horn, who gave a clever demonstration of different kinds of crafts and handwork, and showed the meeting how the various articles were made. XT.* The monthly meeting of the Kelso branch was held in the hall on Tuesday. The roll call was "A story made up of song titles." A competition, " Coconut ice," was won by Miss B. Clark, with Miss M. Kerse second and Mrs Winslade and Misses B. Clark and J. Jenkins (equal) third. An interesting and instructive demonstration was given by Mrs Gutschlag (Waikaka) on " Wood-fibre flowers," some good exhibits being shown. Hostesses were Mrs J. Irving and Miss G. Whitefield. * * * The Tahatika branch met on Wednesday afternoon at Mrs McNab's home. Mrs Mudie won the competition. The roll call was " What my husband thinks of the W.D.F.U." An A.C.E. packet on " Infectious Diseases " was studied. * * * The Waikoikoi branch met on Monday evening, when Mrs W. J. McKenzie presided. An interesting report of Country Girls' Week was given by Misses M. McCall and S. Simmers. A loan packet on " Enterprising Meals " was studied and appreciated. A competition—" Pair of baby's bootees " was won by Miss Hosie, with Mrs Gray second and Miss J. McCall third. The hostesses were Mrs W. J. McKenzie and Misses E. .McKenzie and S. Simmers.
