MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting ot the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on Thursday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs J. Hellyer (in the chair). A. C. Begg. J. N. Murdoch J E Brunton J. B. Blair. K. Clark. D M Reid. R. T. Kirk. D. B. Craighead D. Ireland. W. S Thomson. J. Mosley C. M. Bruce. H. M. Driver. W Lee S Bowman, and J. M. Fraser. Before commencing the business ot the meeting, the chairman referred to the death of Mrs McHattie. who had been an exhibitor at the society's shows for a considerable numbsr of years. A resolution of sympathy was carried in the usual manner The chairman welcomed Mr C M Bruce, the new member of committee for the Dunedin district. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS On the recommendation of the Fin-

ance Committee, accounts- amounting to £297 17s Id were passed for payment. The bank balance was £726 10s 7d and outstanding cheques amounted to £24 17s. It was decided that four more permanent lights be installed at Tahuna Park, at a cost of £37, to be used fox the night carnivals in conjunction with the Summer Show. It was decided to grant the St. John Ambulance Association £5 towards their building fund. The statement of the horse ijuradt was discussed, and although it showea a loss of £8 6s Id, it was considered very satisfactory under the circumstances. Mr P. Mclntyre (Merino Downs) was nominated as judge of the merino and Corriedale section, and Mr Ivan Smith (Bushey) judge of the pig ection. These completed the list of judges for the show, and judges for !he night carnival events were left to the Light Horse Committee, which will meet early in November to finalise the night programmes. The date of the export lamb competition was set for December 18, and Mr K, Clark aeain offered the full co-

operation ot the New Zealand Refrigerating Company's organisation to make the competition a success, and hoped that there would be a good attendance of town members as well as farmers on this occasion. It was decided that the offer of the band of the First Battalion, Otago Regiment to play on the first night of the show be accepted, and that the Pipe Band, be engaged for the second afternoon and evening. A letter was received from Mi D Munro (Palmerston) advising that he would not be able to supply sheen for the dog trials this year, and this matter was left in the hands of Mr W S. Thomson. ■ It was decided to hold a sheaf-toss-ing competition at the Summer Show. A mistake in the schedule in the draugnt horse section was discussed, and it was decided to advertise that classes 219, 220 and 221 were to be shown in halter only. A further special prize donation of £2 2s has been received from Mr H. G. Warren for the best New Zealandbred two-year-old filly. It was noted that the judges of the' I horse parade had already been thanked

for their services, and the secretary was instructed to write to Mr C. V. Dayus and thank him for his report on the examination of 19 horses at the parade, all of which had been passed, and a vote of thanks was passed to the veterinary surgeons for their assistance in this matter. It was decided to ask the Railways Department to run a train from Central Otago on People's Day of the show, which members considered would be well supported. Conditions at the loading bank at Tahuna were discussed, and temporary improvements in the way of hurdles to separate the sheep and cattle decided on. A considerable amount of correspondence was dealt with, and a presen tation of a silver tray was made to Mr J. E. Brunton, who was recently mar ried. The president assured Mr Brunton that the very best wishes of the committee went with the gift. Mr Brunton suitably replied A joint committee consisting ot the Finance Committee, the Grounds and Buildings and Space Committee, was set up to go further into the schemes for larger show buildings.
