THE WELLINGTON MEETING

(From Our Special Reporter) WELLINGTON, Oct, 22. There is every indication of the Wellington spring meeting being continued in fine weather and the racing will again be decided on firm going. Donegal and Journet will probably fight out the Rimu Hurdles and trouble may come from Redolent, whom the shorter distance will suit, and the first day's race may greatly improve. One of the most promising sorts seen out in the early part of.the season is Rockingham, who won at the Christchurch Hunt Club's meeting. He will probably shape well in (he Trial Stakes, and Screamer may do better than generally expected in the same race. Royal Chief was unlucky in Auckland, and should start favourite for the Trentham Stakes. Lazybones and Miracle should not be deserted for the Heretaunga Handicap because they failed to show up on the first day. Godfrey and Peerless may do better than more fancied horses in the Karitane Handicap, for which Mingo may start favourite. Cerne Abbas, Queen of Song and Rebel Lad may race with better luck in the Watkins Handicap as the luck of the race on the first day contributed more to their defeat than lack of racing merit, and Dictate was unlucky to suffer defeat at Timaru and he and Grey Honour should shape well in the Awatea Handicap. Top Row, Cardsharper and Roaming will probably find support for the Belmont Handicap. The fields are as follows;
