PENNY-A-MILE PLANE

FLIGHT ROUND AUSTRALIA 8000 MILES JOURNEY . (From Our Own Correspondent) SYDNEY, Oct. 15. After flying about 8000 miles around Australia in a small " penny-a-mile" plane, two young Sydney airmen, R. H. Julius (a son of New Zealand-born Sir George Julius) and Jack Clancy, landed at Mascot on Monday. "Round Australia is a lot longer than it looks from Mascot," said Clancy when he stepped from the plane. Ironically, the worst weather experienced was that encountered in the home r.tretch, from Melbourne to Sydney. They have not yet worked out just what the flight in the Taylor Cub plane Sterling cost them, but Julius said it was within the penny-a-mile. The flight was made to demonstrate what the Cub plane could do. Twice on the west coast of Australia Julius had his legs hanging out of the plane when Clancy landed in a gale. He was ready to jump out and hold the wings. "At Birdum (Central Queensland) the aerodrome was crowded with goats," Julius said. " We circled for a while, then plonked down in the centre, trusting to luck the goats would scatter. They did." At Winning Pool Station, in

Western Australia, the station people had not seen a plane at close ouarters for a year. The flyers were t'iven a great reception at this and other stations. " The hospitality of outback stations is everything it is supposed to be," the flyers said.
