GOOD TEMPLARY

A meeting of the Rescue Lodge, No. 105, International Order of Good Templars, was held on Tuesday evening, when Bro. W. J. M'Curdy, chief templar, presided. There was a good attendance, and several members who had been absent for some time were welcomed back by the chief templar. Reports on the condition of sick members and on the work of the Juvenile Temple were received, and the secretary (Sis. Audrey Smith) was granted leave of absence. Greetings were received from Bro. W. J. Trevithick, grand secretary, who also wrote in reference to the progress of the Order in Wellington. Special reference was made to the attitude of the judge and grand jury at the Supreme Court in Wellington in reference to the drinking of intoxicants by young people at dances and in motor cars. The lodge unanimously decided to support this attitude, and also to urge on the authorities the necessity of stricter supervision of the liquor trade, especially after hours, and in the matter of young lads frequenting hotels for the purpose of selling newspapers. The brothers who had charge of the programme presented an enjoyable list of items. The Star of the South Juvenile Temple, No. 15, held its weekly meeting on Tuesday. Chief Templar Sis. C Herbert presided over a fair attendance, Superintendent Bro. E. Brooks being in charge. One new brother was initiated. Bro. Brooks gave a short address on the Order in general, and urged the juveniles to take a greater interest in the temperance part of the programmes. The programme for the evening was in the hands of Sis. P. Bundo, acting assistant superintendent, who presented a varied and interesting programme.
