LAWRENCE SCHOOL SPORTS

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—The letter of Mr G. H. Bowie regarding the above matter appearing in your issue of the , 15th is a misrepresentation of facts. In the first place, he mentions the use of the one possible ground in the district, but for the last two years the school sports have been held on the hockey ground adjoining Simpson Park, and this ground was again available for their use on When the Cricket Club

stated it would give a definite answer as to whether or not it would require the ground when it received a list of its fixtures on the 12th inst, and this was done. The Cricket Club was in no way responsible for the abandonment of the sports, and if blame is attachable to anyone it is the S.T.S.P. Schools’ Sports Sub-associa-tion itself for advertising and selling tickets for a function without first having definitely secured the use of the ground. In conclusion, the slur cast on the Domain Board is uncalled for. as the Cricket Club pays a rental for the ground, and surely should receive preference.—l am, etc., . S. E. Mong, ■Hon. Secretary, Lawrence Cricket Club. Lawrence, October 18
