TRENTHAM TRACK WORK
(Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 20. Trentham was at its busiest this morning, but there was little galloping of note. Most of the visitors have only arrived during the last few hours, and their work generally was of a pacing order. The plough was in great condition for such work, but it was so crowded that no fast galloping could be done on it, those desiring to go against the watch having to use the outside of the course proper, which was very fast. The weather was fine, but a very thick mist descended as the sun rose and the posts were nearly all obscured for the next half-hour, during which the bulk of the work was done. The weather to-day looks settled for the week, and records for a spring meeting are likely at this year’s meeting. Red Sun early gave evidence of fitness by running a mile on the plough in Imin 44sec. Sunee and Good Sun went seven furlongs in Imin 28 l-ssec, the last half in 50isec—-a good gallop. Mishna, looking well, came home in the last three furlongs in 38 3-ssec. A particularly good half-mile was Geiras, the filly recording 48 3-ssec and pulling hard at that. LoWehberg just shaded Lickem at the ena of half a mile in 49 4-ssec.
Malibu easily beat Dawning Light over six furlongs in Imin 17sec. the last half in 51sec.
Other galloping after the fog had disappeared was done on the course
proper. Maori Song outclassed Min Lu over six furlongs, the last half being run in 50 3-ssec. The fog was still down when this trial was done, and some watches made fantastic figures. Laughing Lass impressed greatly in beating Oratory by two lengths over half a mile in 49sec. Greathope, making a slight noise, took 49 4-ssec. Soho was going better than Tiger Gain after running seven furlongs in Imin 31sec, the last half in 51 3-ssec. Enge, going alone, took Imin 48sec for a mile, the last half in 53sec. Boughal was easing up at the end of a mile, the last half taking 53 2-ssec. Joviality and Lady Ina stepped smartly over five furlongs in Imin 2 3-ssec, the last half in 49sec. there being nothing between them. Wagner was in front of Suleiman after coming down from the three furlongs in 37 2-ssec. A number of two-year-olds worked down the straight, but there was nothing of note in their efforts. Lord Cavendish is the biggest of Beau Pere’s yet seen, and is by no means backward. His stablemate. Prime Quality, was left at home. Te Hero has also not come for th'e meeting, but A. Cook has brought Suleiman, Card Sharper Free Gold, and It is now likely that Small Boy will start in the Wellington Handicap. Further scratchings are Hazoor and Wild Career.
