THE HERRING INDUSTRY
CLAIMED TO BE DOOMED AN APPEAL FROM YARMOUTH (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Oct. 17. (Received Oct. 18, at 5.5 p.m.) Over 1000 representatives of the herring fishing industry, at a mass meeting at Great Yarmouth, appealed to the Government for funds to save the industry, which they claimed is doomed by the increased costs of production and subsidised foreign competition. Clyde fishermen are . supporting the Yarmouth appeal and demand abolition of the Herring Industry Board, which, it is claimed, has failed to obtain markets, while its restrictions are useless.
