The centre of the city was most severely bombarded for two horn causing casualties among workers, shoppers, and children going to school. REOPENING OF FRONTIER LONDON, Oct. 11. Mr C. R. Attlee, speaking at a meeting of the Spanish Medical Aid Committee, foreshadowed that Labour members of Parliament wou|d demand the reopening of the Spanish frontier. FRENCH VESSEL STOPPED ALGIERS, Oct. 11. (Received Oct. 12, at 8.30 p.m.) Senor Companys announced that he will retire from the presidency of Catalonia in November. “ The Statutes provide that the President shall resign upon convocation of the new Parliament. Although Parliament recently decided to postpone the elections in view of the military situation, it decided nothing about the President’s position. I consider that my mandate expires in November, and I shall not stand for reelection. I would not accept it if it were offered to me, but I will remain a faithful adherent to the Republic.” THE PROPOSED CONFERENCE GERMANY MAY BE INVITED LONDON, Oct. 12. (Received Oct. 12, at 11.30 p.m.) The Daily Mail’s Paris correspondent learned early this morning that France was agreeable to invite Germany to participate in the round table Spanish conference. IF ITALY REFUSES PARIS, Oct. 12. (Received Oct. 13, at 1.45 a.m.) If Italy continues to refuse to discuss the withdrawal of her troops, it is semi-officially suggested that Britain and France may on their own initiative prevent men and materials from reaching Spam. Some authorities consider this would be less dangerous than opening the frontier, which would cause international complications. The Spokesman, who is in close contact with the Foreign pffice, said that from the humane view it was obviously better to reduce foreign intervention than to revive the conflict by sending fresh troops and materials tc Valencia and Salamanca. _
