STOCKBROKING FIRM AFFAIRS TO BE INVESTIGATED MELBOURNE, Oct. 12. It was announced to members of the Stock Exchange that Mr A. J. Wolfe, of the firm of Gavin G. Brown and Co., had ceased to be a member of the exchange. Mr Wolfe had not taken an active part in the business for about 15 years. His partner (Mr Sweetman) was found dead in his office. Mr Hugh S. Chambers was authorised yesterday to investigate the affairs of the firm. So far as the investigation has gone, it is estimated that there is a deficiency of between £30,000 and £35,000
A previous message read: "John A. Sweetman, aged 71, a partner in the stockbroking firm of G. Brown and Co., Melbourne, was found dead in his office with a gas jet turned on. Sweetman recently suffered a nervous breakdown.”
