CENTRAL CONTROL NOT FAVOURED “A RETROGRADE STEP” (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. The view that it would be a retrograde step to hand over control of the electrical industry of New Zealand to a central authority was ex pressed by the Mayor, Mr T C A. Hislop, when opening the annual conference of the Electric Supply Authorities’ Engineers’ Association to-day. Mr Hislop said he thought that this would be the worst possible step for the community as a whole, as the basis of all true democratic government was to keep localities as far as possible in control of their own affairs. 1
