HUGE FOOTPRINTS

HIMALAYAN BOGY MEN The bogy men of the Himalayas, alias “ the abominable snow men,” have a knack of keeping in the public eye. Not since Man Fi’iday startled Robinson Crusoe have thei’e appeai'ed such intriguing footprints as those of these legendary outcasts who people the high slopes of the Himalayas. Climbers and explorers are hardheaded realists, but few of them would deny outright the existence of this monstrous race, so feared? by the hill tribes. Mr Eric Shipton and Herr Willy Merkl are among the mountaineers who have seer, and confessed bewilderment at the strange footprints. The latest observer is Mr Ronald Kaulback, whose fascinating story of his Tibetan tour has just been published. Mr Kaulback came across some extraordinary tracks in the snow 16,000 f! above the Salween Valley, which “looked exactly as though they had been made by barefooted men.” After weighing the “ pi-os ” and “ cons,” he allows the snow men theory to remain a mystery. To the hill dwellers there is no mystei'y. for they can describe in detail the precise appearance and daily habits of the race.
