AUSTRALIAN NEWS

COCKATOO DOCKYARD FIRE PRECEDED BY EXPLOSIONS SYDNEY, Sept. 27. Two loud explosions preceded the fire at Cockatoo Dockyard. The Daily Telegraph says in view of the fact that the storeman stated that there was nothing in the store to cause either the fire or the explosion, and that the section of the dockyard which is burned is isolated from the power-house at week-ends, ruling out the possibility of a short circuit, the police are investigating the possibility of the fire having been maliciously caused.
