Never use water on mother-of-pearl. Clean it when necessary with a soft rag dipped in olive oil and polish with a piece of silk. * * * Wash parsley in hot water instead of cold. It will be easier to chopi and will retain its flavour. ♦ « • To renovate leather articles, rub them over with a clean, soft rag moistened with olive oil. Next day rub with the inside of a banana skin, and polish with a soft duster. 'n Rub some crearp of tartar over soiled white kid gloves and shoes. When brushed off they will look quite new. s[s * When making a small boy’s suit, cut the shirt three inches longer than the pattern. When the material shrinks the buttons can be lowered. Use a large gas burner turned low, rather than a small one turned high, thus ensuring even cooking and preventing burning. To cook fresh green peas without soda, add two or three of the pea pods and an even teaspoon of sugar to the water. * * ik If the leg of seagrass furniture frays out, tack a piece of soft leather the shade of the chair round the leg at the bottom. If done neatly, the mend will not be noticeable, and the leg will not fray again. * * * When airing coats on a hanger it is a good idea to turn them inside out as well, and allow the sun to sweeten the lining. When a canvas trunk is damaged a good repair can be made by covering the tear with canvas. Finish by painting the patch to match the colour of the trunk. n* To keep the pleats of your dress in place when not wearing it, place bobby-pins at the end of the pleats. When cooking hard-boiled eggs, choose the eggs that are at least two days old. These will shell cleanly ¥ ¥ ¥ To air off an .roned collar quickly, fold it for a few minutes round a jug filled with very hot water. ¥ ¥ ¥ To remove bagginess at the knees of men’s trousers, always be sure to press the back crease first, then the cuffs, and lastly the front crease, ironing from the cuffs upwards. If you have difficulty in getting a cake out of a tin in which it has been cooked, while still hot place the tin on a wet cloth for a few minutes.
