MANCHESTER UNITY

Evidence of considerable interest in the forthcoming official visit to Loyal Dunedin Lodge was apparent at the meeting of Loyal Middlemarch at its monthly meeting. N.G. Bro. Glover intimated to members that this function would take place on the evening of September 11, and a generous response to his invitation to participate was received. During the meeting one member was initiated and a further proposition for membership received. After a considerable amount of routine business had been transacted the meeting went into harmony. At the meeting of Loyal Mosgiel held on Tuesday evening last it was resolved to launch a membership cam-

paign. Preliminary arrangements were made and everything put in order for a full discussion on the plan of campaign at the next meeting of the lodge. N.G. Bro. J. J. Thomson presided and opened discussion on the matter of entertaining kindred societies at a social function. As this is an annual occurrence, a committee was appointed to go into ways and means and report progress at a future meeting. Later a degree meeting was held and Lecture Master Bro. Johnstone conferred degrees on those members privileged to receive them. A splendid attendance greeted N.G. Sis. J. Duncan at the fortnightly meeting of Lodge Princess Mary. A programme of events for the ensuing 12 months was presented to members and approved. Three proposals for membership were received, and arrange-

ments completed for the entertainment of the combined juvenile lodges at next meeting. The Prov. C.S. advised that Sis. Cumberbeach had been appointed a" hospital visitor, and requested members to make a point of advising her on the admission of any member into that institution. The adjourned summoned meeting was reopened for the purpose of electing a lodge auditor. P.G. Bro. Hall Masters received the appointment. On the adjournment being taken the single sisters conducted a progressive euchre tournament, the winners being Sis. Howlison and Bro. Stuart. The consolation prizes went to Sis. Muntz and Bro. Niven. N.G. Bro. C. M. Isaac was in charge of proceedings in the initial stages of the meeting of Loyal Caversham at the usual fortnightly meeting. P.G. Bro.

H. T. Emerson, who has been ill for a considerable period, made a most welcome reappearance in the lodge, and was very cordially received. Correspondence was received irom a number of members who have recently married. Loyal Roxburgh and Lodge Palmerston notified their intention of being represented at the meeting to be held on September 11. The lodge received an invitation to be present at the meeting of Loyal Unity Lodge 1.0.0. F. on August 25. This was accepted with thanks. At this stage the officers of Loyal Princess Mary assumed control of the meeting and initiated a new member in a most efficient manner and later entertained members with an enjoyable programme. A list of events for inclusion in the Hand Book was submitted to the meeting and adopted. The lady mem-

bers were congratulated on the manner in which they had conducted proceedings and thanked for their entertainment. Headed by W.M. Bro. J. Roberts a party of members from the City Past Grands' Lodge made a fraternal visit to the Milton P.G.'s Lodge. They were cordially received by W.M. Bro. G. Melville and his officers. After an exchange of greetings, Bro. Roberts was invited to take the chair and conduct the installation of officers, the following being appointed and formally installed:—W.M., Sis. Thornton; 8.M., Sis. Olver; secretary, Bro. Murray; Warden, Bro. Woodhead; Tyler, Bro. Kinnaird; and P.M., Bro.'Melville. The institution of a P.G.'s Lodge in .Milton is of recent date, and it is hoped that from this visit of the city lodge much good will accrue. A considerable

amount of discussion ensued round forms of ritual, and useful advice and information was tendered by visiting brethren. A social hour was spent.
