M'CREADY BEATS LEWIS (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 22. Earl M'Cready, the Canadian and British Empire wrestling champion, scored a popular victory over the former world's title-holder, Ed (" Strangler ") Lewis, on > Saturday night. The first fall was obtained by Lewis in the second round, when, after a series of forearm jolts, he pulled M'Cr«:ady off the ropes and pinned him with a body press and armbar. Early in the next round M'Cready sent his opponent sprawling with a flying tackle, Lewis remaining under the ropes for some seconds. The Canadian was loudly cheered when he responded in a vigorous manner to the forearm jolting attack. After driving Lewis into a corner, M'Cready lifted his man and slammed him heavily to the mat to even the falls with a body press. Lewis had to be assisted to his corner, having suffered an injury to the back of his neck. He had not recovered during the two minutes' interval, and when M'Cready rushed across and prepared to slam his opponent once more the referee intervened and awarded the match to the Canadian. BLOMFIELD DEFEATS WADE (Per United Press association) CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 22. " Lofty " Blomfleld beat Glenn Wade on points in a very hard and dour wrestling match on Saturday night. Wade secured a fall in the fourth round with a jack-knife, and Blomfleld evened in the sixth round with an octopus clamp.
