Little Milivoj Simon, aged five, the son of a Customs official in Maribor. Jugoslavia, found a beautiful “wriggly" stick —and is lucky to be alive. Ransacking a pile of wood in his father’s yard, Milivoj discovered a queerly patterned stick, about three feet long. He took it into the house to play with it, and thought it great fun when the object began to “ wriggle ” in front of the fire. Just then Milivoj’s father returned home. Looking at the “ stick," he saw at once that it was a deadly poisonous snake. It had been frozen stiff by the bitter cold, and was just beginning to revive in the warmth of the room.
