THE MARCUS SHOW
PLAYING TO REPUTATION The Marcus Show came lo Dunedin with a reputation for brilliantly spectacular revue, something that New Zealand had not seen before, and Dunedin audiences this week have been satisfying themselves that all the praise that has been given to the show was merited. Last evening there was "another good house at His Majesty’s Theatre, and the three hours of sparkling entertainment passed with astonishing rapidity. It is the type of entertainment that cannot leave audiences dull and stolid, the pace being furious from the first curtain, and the whole show being brimful of colour, fun and music. Comedy, aancing, and spectacular ensembles provide the real strength of the production, but the specialty acts are a show on their own. The funmakers are headed by Ben M’Atee. and their patter and gags are sophisticated and irresistibly ludicrous. The chief jester is supported by a clever band of assistants in Bob Dyer. Dorothy Cloud, Georgine Millar, Ha Cha San. Lee Mason, Sparky Kaye, Lillian M’Coy, and Harold Boyd. The ballets are brilliant Every member is an accomplished individual dancer, and the ensembles are vivid in the extreme and creations of sheer rhythm They cover a wide range of types, from the eccentric with highly amusing postures, to the smooth and languorous tempo of the waltz. Precision and deftness made the technical side oi it all just a matter of course. Lcoi Miller, of the nimble feet, the sinuous Sharon de Vries, the Dancing Bernays Sylvia Lee and A 1 Ricker all have their imuortant contributions, amt every artifice of the theatre has been employed to provide a finish which is memorable. The acrobatic balancing of the Six Tossing Bedfords and the adagio dancing of the Liske Brothers mingle among the specialty numbers with Fid Gordon, a freak violinist and the other features of the same brilliance: but it is the succession of magnificent snectacles wh'ch makes the Marcus Show rate high above any other tvne of revo* 4 entertainment tha* hoc been seen in Dunlin. r j'ho r)rn*T*am TV ‘e will be continue.! nnt.il the enrl of the a eonnoio+elv now proqputafion. u Vanities.” bfi’ ncr onono'l on Monday for a season of three nislits.
