Reports of meetings ol branches are requested, but they should be furnished promptly for thepublication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be promised.
The monthly meeting of .the Katea branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on June lb. After the business meeting the delegate gave a report on the conference. A “lone packet” on home furnishings was opened and discussed. Mrs Landreth was hostess.
The Owaka Valley branch met, with Mrs M'Gimpsey presiding. The roll call was, ,r Your favourite proverb. The senior competition, “ The most useful article made from a sugarbag, was won by Mrs J. B o S^r,, with Mrs Knox second and Mrs Miller third. The junior competition, The best
worked coloured embroidery tray cloth," was won by Miss Winnie Knox, with Miss Peg. Miller second and Miss Pearl Morris third.
A meeting of the Hyde branch was held at Mrs T. Prendergast’s, with Mrs J. Milne presiding. The motto was “ Life without friendship is like the sky without sun.” A demonstration on making “Humpties” was given by Mrs J. Milne.
Mrs D. J. Ross (vice-president) was in the chair at the May meeting of the Hampden branch on Thursday last. The roll call was “A Scotch story or saying.” Sir Louis Barnett gave a travel talk, which was much appreciated. The hostesses were Mesdames L. Caldwell, J. Douglass, and J. Dick. The awards for three best flowers were won by Miss M'Kerrow 1, Mrs Woodley 2, and Mrs W. Belcher 3.
The Hilderthorpe branch met on Saturday last and was presided over by Mrs M'Latchie. The roll-call was "A Humorous Story.” Mrs M'Latchie having been elected vice-president of the Provincial Executive, Miss L. Simpson was' appointed to fill the vacancy as delegate to the executive. A social hour was spent, the following contributing: Pianoforte solo. Mrs J. Bishop: vocal solos, Mesdames M'Latchie and Whyte; recitations, Misses L. Simpson and D. Herd. A competition arranged by Mrs Duncan was won by Mrs Bishop, and Mrs M'Latchie’s choice chrysanthemum won the Best Bloom Competition. Hostesses were Mesdames Paton and M'Latchie.
