WANGANELLA BUFFETED
, HEAVY . TASMAN CROSSING GALE REACHES SEVENTY-FIVE MILES (Per United Press Association) ' AUCKLAND, Juhe'SS!. Having encountered a storm In ■ the Tasman, the Wanganella will arrive to-morrow, a day late from Sydney. A radio message from the Wanganella states that the vessel is battling against head-on seas and a 75-mile-an-hour gale. The Wanganella had been compelled to reduce her speed to five knots for 40 hours. The trip was the roughest for some years. The storm struck the vessel at’s a.m. on Sunday, 80 miles off Sydney, and continued at 75 to 60 miles an, hour until noon on Monday. In the afternoon the wind eased, leaving an exceptionally heavy swell. The Wanganella was, pitching very heavily and shipping ,a good deal of water forward. 7/vjt The weather to-day was relatively calm, hut there was still a bad‘swell. There were few passengers in the dining saloon until lunch time yesterday.
