VINCENT HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Vincent Hospital Board was held at Clyde on Wednesday last, there being present:— Messrs J. Ritchie (chairman) W. Jelley, S. A. Stevens, S. T. Spain. C. Weaver, W. Bringans, G. T. Alexander, and J. M'Knight. Dr W. D. Brown was also in attendance. On behalf of the other members of the board, Mr Stevens congratulated Messrs Ritchie and Bringans on receiving Coronation decorations. The Director-general of Health forwarded Ministerial approval of the board's estimates for 1937-38 The Director-general of Health wrote expressing the desire of the Government that all hospital boards should observe the spirit of the legislation in regard to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and accordingly endeavour to reduce working hours consistent with the efficient management of Institutions and to accept award conditions generally.—The secretary's reply that the board was endeavouring to accept award conditions generally, but owing to lack of accommodation in staff quarters was unable to make any considerable reduction in working hours, was approved The Hospital Boards' Association advised that it was proposed to bring the group insurance scheme with the State Fire and Accident Insurance Office into operation as from July I.—lt was decided that any insurances with other companies expiring after that date be transferred to the State Fire Office. The Otago Hospital Board forwarded accounts totalling £99 5s for the treatment of 16 Vincent district patients prior to March 31 in the institutions of that board.—Received. The payment by monthly instalments of £6OO to "the Otago Hospital Board for the current financial year, with an adjustment at the close of the year for the maintenance of patients was approved. The South Otago Hospital Board forwarded accounts totalling £46 12s, owing for the maintenance of two Vincent patients in its institutionsReceived. The Wellington Hospital Board forwarded an account of £4 19s, owing for the maintenance of a Vincent case —Received.

Thirteen hospital boards wrote agreeing to enter into reciprocal agreements with the board by which no charge would be made for maintenance and treatment of patients excluding those requiring special or T.B treatmentNoted. The chairman was unanimously replected the board's representative on the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee for the ensuing year. Two applications for admission to the Waipiata Sanatorium were received, and the secretary's action in arranging their admission was approved The treasurer's report showed a debit balance on June 15 of £713 lis lOd. There was, however, a claim of £962 Os 4d. due by the Government for subsidy on levies. The matron of the Dunstan Hospital reported that during May, nine patients were admitted, seven were discharged, one had died, and six were in hospital on May 31.—Noted. The matron of the Cromwell Hospital reported that during May. .29 patients were admitted. 21 were discharged, two had died, and 20 remained in hospital on May 31.—Noted Accounts totalling £1799 Gs 9d were passed for payment.
