OFFICIAL FORECAST RAIN DEVELOPING The following is the official weather forecast:— An anti-cyclone of moderate intensity at present lies along the east coast of the Dominion but an extensive cyclonic depression centred south of Lord Howe Island covers the North Tasman Sea and is moving slowly south-eastwards. Indications are for: — Winds.—Moderate to strorig easterly to north-easterly over the northern half of the North Island rising in places to gale force, elsewhere winds between north-east and south-east prevailing, moderate generally at first but increasing shortly about and north of Cook Strait. Seas.—New Zealand waters: Rough north of East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate but later rising north of Kaikoura and in the Cook Strait -area. Eastern Tasman Sea: North-easterly winds strong to gale force in the northern portion with rough to high seas, moderate to strong easterly to south-easterly winds with moderate to rather rough seas in the southern portion. Weather.—Becoming dull and misty from Nelson and Marlborough northwards with rain gradually setting In generally* some heavy falls being likely, especially in the northern portion of the North Island, elsewhere mainly fair at first, but cloud increasing and later some rain developing also in the eastern districts of the South Island; temperatures rather milder generally. Overcast but fine weather ruled during the day, the wind being fresh from the north-east. The temperatures were fairly cold. After being steady for several days, the barometer began to fall at mid-day, and at 5 p.m. was falling at 29.80in.' WELLINGTON, June 22. The morning was changeable, with occasional light showers, but the afternoon was fine and pleasant. A cool south-east breeze prevailed. The minimum temperature last night was 40.5 deg and the maximum to-day 47.9 deg. CHRISTCHURCH, June 22. The weather was fine but cloudy in Christchurch to-day, with a very light north-east wind.
