THREE WEEKS' HARD LABOUR

(Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 22

" Where a definite and serious evil exists it must be dealt with by the courts with what power they have," said Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., in dealing with a charge of an intoxicated car driver. The defendant, Richard James Thomas Cowley, aged 49, a painter, was sentenced to 21 days' hard labour, his licence was suspended, and he was prohibited from obtaining another till after May 31, 1939. It was stated that the defendant had a conviction about 10 years ago.
