SECRET MEETING
THE POPE AND CARDINALS SITUATION IN SPAIN AND GERMANY ROME, June 21. (Received June 21, at 8.30 p.m.) Great importance is attached to a secret meeting of the Congregation of Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs, which was attended by 11 cardinals The Pope presided, which is a rare occurrence. It is believed that the gathering discussed the situations in Spain and Germany, which conclusion is borne out by the strong wording of the Apostolic Letter which the Pope sent to the Eucharistic Congress at Posen. The latter chiefly condemned Communism, but many phrases of it were almost equally strictures on Nazism. CATHOLIC SCHOOLS CLOSED STATE ACTION IN BAVARIA
BERLIN, June 21 (Received June 21. at 9 p.m.)
While the Pope was conferring with his cardinals. Herr Wagner. Governor of Bavaria, announced that 11 Catholic schools in Bavaria had been closed and the remainder had been secularised Herr Wagner added: “The Pone went over Germany, which, however. would he hannie'' if he ordered the representatives of ids Church to submit to State authority ”
